JJ : Search engine can be one of the easiest way your customers or potential customers can find your company unless your link doesn’t come up when someone does a search, so in today’s consultant corner, we are going to ask Stephanie, senior vice president of network solution just how you make sure that your company comes up on top of those listing.

So how important is it? Whether you are internet company or you have services to provide?  So how important is it to come up first?

Right now it is incredibly important, when you look at what people are doing out of web, they are searching, that’s how they find website. So coming up those top no matter you are a e commerce company or local business (providing services), it is very important, it is often a difference between success and failure for small business.

Alright, let’s get through the top 3 things to get you on the top.

Sure, a lot of website who has a lot website and few words, but search engine is getting the priority of a subject. That means you have to provide them with a lot of text so that the search engine can read. So they want a site that knows the most and the most reputable on the topic. So you got to provide a lot of good content, that can be done through article, through blogs. There are a number of ways to get it but a lot of small business making a mistake by just not having enough.

For example, how could I add content? Selling a shampoo on my website, at shampoo 2.95? What can I add content to that?

Sure, the very best thing you can do is to write an article about the shampoo. Tell the customers the benefit of the shampoo. You know a lot of retailers just having a little tag on the shelf and now you have as much room as you know to tell the customers all the reason they should buy it. At the same time you are feeding the search engine with great content.

So in some ways the customers may not need all these information but you put it on anyhow.

Ya, we find it customers used to find a lot more information online. They do a lot of reading, you will be surprised.

So Ok, the other things is having a lot links to your site helps in search engine placement. So how do you get more link to your site?

Sure, the first thing important to understand is the search engine view link kind of a voting system. So if you have a lot of sites that links to you, so they are saying that site is voting for your site. So you actually want the word that you want to come up for to be the link. So what you would do is go out and talk to friends who maybe have website. And if you have a blog really any website where you contribute content, you will be surprised people will give you links and more link is always better.

So for example if you sell bunch of stuff that you want to come up high when you write shampoo and your friend who has a blog should say “shampoo” and link to you.

Yup, and they should link using the word “shampoo”. A lot of time they will say click here and that’s the link where you site isn’t about click here, it is about shampoo. So that’s the important word to link(”shampoo”)

So now the next one is getting some technology and it going to make people not understand what we are saying. You say title tag and meta tag. What are those?

Sure, there are behind the scene pieces of text for your website. So if you pull out an internet browser and the very top you see what the site is all about, that’s the title tag. A webmaster can show you how to do it. If you search online for how to make a title tag and how to make a meta tag, you can find some really simple guide to do that. But it is important to have your keywords there and it is very focus on the content of your site.

There are so many companies out there that helps you with this SEO engine optimization, for someone who is just starting with this, how do you about evaluating a company?

Sure, the first thing I would do is turn into the internet, do a search and find out what other people are thought about a company that they viewed. And also stick with bigger names if you never heard of a company but at least place a couple of phone call and make sure they can answer all of your questions the way you think they should be answering.

Is there anyway to evaluate by saying who is your client and then do a quick search on some of those words?

Definitely, I would ask for example I would say tell me some clients that you work for in the past and run some search engine and see if they coming up. That’s a great way to get good advice.

And finally if you coming up high on one search engine, is it likely you are going to come up high on all the search engine? Or they are going to work differently?

They all works slightly differently, but in most part the criteria are the same. So I would focus on get in one, that’s great. If you can get in more than one , that’s would be wonderful. So if you doing right for one, you probably come up in the other as well.

Greatest Myths of all that all other internet marketer will not tell you

Myth #1: Internet business is simple and you can master them fast.

Internet business is not about setting a website, start selling and start earning ridiculous income (it is not as easy as it seems in most of the internet sales copy). There are knowledge you would need to acquire, software to learn and strategies that needs to put through thousand of testing before you could really start earning money. You can dream about your success, but it is the efforts that you need to work on. However, you could see a reasonable result by putting a few hours everyday (unlike traditional business that your whole life before you could see results).

Myth #2: Make money online is just another lies.

This is not true, I interviewed people like Zack Harris and Alvin Phang, who made great breakthrough in internet banking in just few years time. Driven by high income they could get from internet, they eventually quitted their job and work full time in internet marketing. They are now earning five figures from their internet business.

Myth #3: You make incredibly high income in short time

This is a wrong concept, internet marketing is just like any other traditional business, you have to put in your time and effort. Many people think they could make thousands of dollars really fast (in a few months or even few days), but just to find themselves earning nothing after a period of time. This is the mind set that need to be corrected. I know of an internet marketer who started the business after being an electronic engineer for 10 years. It took him one year of effort before he could get his first pay check, and it is only worth U$7!! He didn’t manage to bank in the check because the bank would charge him $15 dollars just for the transaction. This is a true story about someone who are now earning five figures US$ from his internet business. Likewise, in order to make money online, you got to be prepared to put in effort and really devoted in getting what you want online.

Myth 4: internet business is a saturated market

If you search through the internet, just simply type “make money online” (or any other sentence out of your mind). You will easily find million of websites related to this keyword, that’s that much of competition you need to go against with if you really want to prosper in internet marketing. It looks like internet business has saturated, is this true? The answer is No, and it will never saturate. This is because internet users are growing exponentially every years. The internet business was only worth U$20 billions per year in 2005, the number is going to grow to eye popping U$3 Trillions in the next few year time ( this is real exponential trend). Of course you will see thousands of people going for internet business every year (looks scary if you really do your keyword research), but compared to Billions or Trillions of internet market, there is still great room of expansion.

Myth #5: It is a free business

This is again not quite true. Internet marketing is not as easy as it seems (or as you could see from many sales copies that you could find in the market). It needs time and money before you could really get your first pay checks…. And the next pay checks. To get the most out of your own website, you have to invest a reasonable amount of money to get start with, like buying software, attend course, researches, and advertisement. However, it is comparatively a lot cheaper than all those traditional business where you have no rental, operation cost, running cost and labor to worry about. ( I always compare to the traditional business as I think there is distinctive advantage in doing internet business over traditional business.
